James Stephenson Leake Jr. was born in Troy, North Carolina on July 28,1951 to the late Stephen Leake and Jessie Robinson Leake. James departed this life on Saturday February 22,2025, in Tuskegee, Alabama.
He was baptized at an early age. He was an active member of Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, in Dayton, Ohio. He enjoyed singing in the men’s choir before his health declined. James attended Brutonville Elementary in Candor, NC., and graduated from East Montgomery High School in (1969) Biscoe, NC.
He joined the US Army in 1972. James military career allowed him to travel all over the world. While in the military he deployed to other countries. He earned promotions, and received many medals and certificates for his dedication and hard work. He retired from the US Army in 1992, with an honorable discharge.
James was preceded in death by his wife Sharon Leake, brother William F. Robinson Sr., and sister Gearldlyn A. Leake. He leaves to cherish his memories, daughter Kenyatta (Kenneth Sr.) Petty of Huntsville, Al., son, Greg (Yolanda) Greenwood of Dothan, Al., daughter, Mischka (Brian) Smith of Albany, Or., daughter Delesias Leake of Dothan, Al. One sister, Sue Leake of Candor, N.C., one sister- in- law, Evelyn Robinson of Biscoe, N.C., 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Revelation 21:4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
