Johnnie Mae Mckinzie was born October 13, 1947 to the late Charlie Mack and Eula Mae McKinzie. She departed this life on this side of Heaven on September 28, 2021. Johnnie Mae had several siblings that she grew up with and was very close to them all. She is preceded in death by some of her siblings: Lillie Mae McKinzie, Charles Edward McKinzie, Charlie Mack Mckinzie Jr., Essie Mae Copeland, Inester Smith, Billy Ray Mckinzie as well as her beloved mother and father.
Johnnie Mae Mckinzie married the late Lerue Freeman at a young age and to this union five handsome sons were born. She is also preceded in her passing by two of her sons: Johnny Mosley Freeman and Adam Fitzgerald Freeman. Later in her years on earth, Johnnie Mae united with the late Mr. Lee Arthur Phillips who proceeds her in death.
Johnnie Mae was a woman who everyone claimed as their mom because that’s the type of spirit and heart she left on this side of Heaven. She bore five boys but she raised many. When you hear her name, it was always preceded with “Mama, Grandma, Auntie, or just plain ol Ma.” She was a phenomenal cook and had the best spirit when doing so. Everyone came to Mrs. Johnnie Mae house to eat!! She always would say, if “I can’t do anything else, I am going to make sure my children eat” and she meant just that. Love is what it does and she showed her love from all angles of life especially in her cooking. She will truly be missed just for being Mrs. Johnnie Mae.
Johnnie Mae was a Christian and she loved going to fellowship at her church. She was a Faithful member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church until she was no longer able go and sit in the fellowship but she still would listen on the radio.
Johnnie Mae Phillips leaves to cherish her legacy with her beloved children: Lerue Jr. (Cassandra) Freeman, Charles Freeman & Terry Freeman, all from Dothan, al. Her sisters Merlene (Joe) Myles, Willie Maude (George) Jones; Rose Taylor; Annie Ruth Carroll; all from Dothan, AL. Carrie Bell McKinzie of Pompano Beach FL; . One sister in love; Addie McKinzie; Dothan, Al. She leaves her Legacy to Twelve grandchildren who were the life of her world and Thirty four Great grandchildren who made every moment on this earth a Blessing to her. She also leave her spirit to all she touched throughout her years here including Nieces, Nephews, Special classmates, Friends, Family and children who called her Mom.
There will never be another Johnnie Mae Phillips. She was one of a kind to all who loved her
