Doward Sylleen Baker, 39, of Dothan, AL died unexpectedly by the hands of man on April 19, 2021. He was born July 3, 1981. He graduated from Dothan High School and attended Troy University. He drove trucks for several years. Doward accepted the Lord, Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and joined New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
Duke, as he was affectionately known, loved sports, fishing and singing for the Lord. He was a kindhearted and loving person and always tried to help others. To know him was to love him.
He was preceded in death by his grandad, Leroy Christmas Jr., grandmother, Louise Baker; brother, Raheem Ali Baker; and sister, Lakesha N. Thomas.
Doward is survived by his parents John E. Baker and Curlene Hodge (Russell) and father Anthony West, all of Dothan; his brothers Derrick and Nhoji Baker, and Rozell Thomas all of Dothan, AL.; his sisters Sharda and Sarah Crews of Dothan, AL and Margaret Benson of Chicago, IL. He also leaves to cherish his memory his beloved maternal grandmother, Carrie Christmas of Dothan, AL; Uncles: Leroy Christmas, III of Belleville, IL; Lamar Glenn, Freddie Glenn, and Jerome Baker all of Dothan, AL; Aunts: Alice Christmas, Joyce Ann Baker, Gloria Baker (Osburn), Ruby Russaw and Leslie Austin all of Dothan, AL, Cheryl Christmas Scott (Sheldon) of Belleville, IL, and Karen Christmas Spencer (Marvin) of Helena, AL ; His special cousins: Kelvin Coleman (Shanae) of Detroit, MI, Alicia Garrison and T. Holt of Dothan, AL, Cherelle Montgomery (Montrae), Chelsea Roberts (Josh), Bryse Scott all of Belleville, IL and Marvin Spencer, Jr (“MJ”) of Helena, AL; Special Friends: Base O. Manno, Brenda Taliaferro and a host of other relatives and friends.
