Mrs. Deborah Sue (Jefferies) Wilkerson

Our beloved Deborah Sue Wilkerson of Dothan, AL, left her earthly home to be with the Lord on the wings of an angel on Wednesday morning,     November 18, 2020 at 11:00 A.M.

Deborah was born on December 8, 1951 to her parents, the late Howard Jefferies and Mattie Sue Jefferies. She was the oldest of three children and a native of Gaffney, South Carolina, where she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a member of Allen Temple C..M.E. Church.

Deborah graduated from Gaffney Senior High School in 1969. Shortly thereafter she attended South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina where she graduated in 1974 with a BS in Biology.       Continuing her educational pursuits, she attended Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana and obtained a BS in Medical Technology, with certification, in 1978. Deborah enjoyed her career as a Medical          Technologist for over thirty-five yrs. She retired from Flowers Hospital of Dothan, Alabama, where she spent much of her career.

Deborah met the love of her life, Virgil Wilkerson, through mutual friends in 1978. Her dear friend Pat, after having met Virgil the night before, told Deborah she had just met Deborah’s husband. From her mouth to God’s ears. Deborah and Virgil married in 1984. They have been married and devoted partners to each other for over 36 years.

Deborah was a quite and reserved lady with a compassionate spirit. She loved her shoes and loved to travel. Anytime she packed for a trip, there was a separate suitcase just for her shoes. She was an awesome cook and took much pleasure in cooking and caring for her husband, Virgil. To know Deborah is to know that she was a lady who never spoke an ill word about anyone.

Deborah loved and cherished her husband, family friends, and people in general. She was a source of inspiration, love, and joy for all those who knew and loved her as she traveled along the highway of life. Deborah will always be remembered in our hearts for the love that she showed, never refusing to help anyone if she possibly could. We loved her and will miss her dearly.

In addition to her parents, Deborah was preceded in death by her brother, Howard Lee Jefferies, Jr.

Left to cherish many fond and loving memories is her loving family: her devoted and loving husband, Virgil Wilkerson; her loving and caring     sisters: Mary Feemster of York County, South Carolina, Merchelle Kay Jefferies of New Orleans, Louisiana; brothers-in-law: Elliot (Elaine) Wilkerson of Dothan, AL, Oscar Wilkerson, Gregory (Lynn) Wilkerson of the Birmingham area; sisters-in-law: Partheane Jefferies of Gaffney, South Carolina, Thanita Wilkerson, Debra Wilkerson, Elizabeth Wilkerson,  Wanda D. Handy all of the Birmingham area; godson, Leslie Ray        Hightower II, a host of nieces, nephews, great and great-great and a host of other relatives and many friends.
